Kasaoka City is located in the southwest part of Okayama Prefecture and is bordered on the west by Fukuyama City in Hiroshima Prefecture. The total area of the city is 136k and it faces the picturesque Seto Inland Sea to the south. It extends approximately 136 k, 13.6km from east to west and 33.6km from north to south including areas of the sea. The main part of the city is divided into the northern area which includes several islands in the Seto Inland Sea and the reclaimed land in Kasaoka Bay; and the plain spreading out along the river.
In the land areas, there are many mountains and the urban district of the city is formed over twenty reclaimed land areas which have been reclaimed since the Edo period (17th).
In the marine areas, about 30 islands are dotted between Shikoku and Tadotsu, like stepping-stones.
The climate of the city is temperate with low rainfall as the city is located in the so-called Seto Inland Climate Zone. The characteristics of this city are that the volume of river water is small and many irrigation ponds.
